The digital divide is rapidly increasing globally as countries have become further apart in the world of technology. there is a small number of countries with the latest technological softwares, the best internet connections and are excelling in these areas whereas there are other countries which are left behind and barely have access to the internet. USA, EUROPE and NORTHERN ASIA are those who at the top of the digital chain and the less developed parts of the world such as AFRICA, INDIA and SOUTHERN ASIA are at the bottom.. “As of 2003, only seven percent of the world's 6.4 billion people have had access to the World Wide Web” [Ryder M, 2005]. Internet access is greatly restricted in the less economically developed areas in the world. This is due to the fact that they have no money and their standard of living is poor.
Countries who don't have access to these luxuries are unable to afford the initial start-up cost of installing these features. This means that these countries will not develop and grow whereas others are constantly growing. This will have a huge impact on the future as the rich countries will become richer and the poor countries will stay poor. ultimately the digital divide will become enormous and it will lead to more immigrants trying to come to these developed countries in order to have a better life. These countries would be at a competitive and economic disadvantage, thus they will be exploited far more than they are now. As a result of not having internet access, it means that schools are unable to provide the best education and so students will not have the opportunities to change their lives and take advantage of the beneficial information available on the web.
